This is a story about a woman who was passionate about bringing books to children.

It is also a story about three brothers, all of whom were passionate about music, and about violins in particular. From the four of them came something unheard of in India. Something called Karadi Tales.

It all started when Shobha Viswanath saw her son read at the age of three, with the help of audio books available in the US. It was a concept she felt was missing in the lives of Indian children.

This is where her husband Viswanath's brothers came in. Better known as the group, Three Brothers And A Violin, they had long decided to produce various genres of music under their banner, Sky Music India.

After a meeting one evening in Mumbai, Karadi Tales was born. The idea came from Shobha.

"When I started scripting the stories, I found that bears were among the most vibrant and important characters in India's forests," says Shobha. "There were hardly any stories without a bear in it. This is why I decided to make him the storyteller. I really did not want to call him Bhalu or Balu. I thought Karadi had a good ring to it."
