Judging Parameters

The ‘Will You Write With Me?’ contest will be judged by eminent, internationally published children’s authors. We – the judges and the team at Karadi Tales – are excited about reading great stories from you guys.

Our publishing director, Shobha Viswanath, adds, ‘It’s time for Indian kids to read Indian stories by Indian writers, and it’s up to publishers to encourage more Indians to write for children. This contest is intended to encourage everyone – youngsters and adults alike – to think out of the box and use their imaginations to write a story. We at Karadi Tales are convinced that India is full of talented writers and we want to provide them the platform to write with us.’

It’s always hard to judge any contest. Creative contests are even harder because these are often subjective. So when we thought about the kind of stories we’re looking for, we realised that we have no generic preferences. We’re not particular about the type of ending you choose to write – serious endings, funny endings, bizarre endings… they’re all equally interesting to us.

It really just boils down to two things: the way you take the plot forward and your writing style. In short, we’re looking for good, wholesome children’s fiction.

Do remember, though, that the winning entries will be published as audiobooks by Karadi Tales. So we’re also looking for stories that sound good on audio. A good way of assessing this is to read the story out loud to someone once you’re done. Ask people how it sounds. If you don’t want to share the story, record yourself reading it and listen. If you’re looking for an example, just pick up any other book in the ‘Will You Read With Me?’ series. (Click here to listen to an audio clip from our new audiobook Super Hathaman.)

So just think about what makes a good children’s story – and get going!
