OUR LATEST RELEASE: SION’S MISFORTUNE

Sion is a fortune-teller who lives in an ancient Chinese kingdom with his son and a beloved horse. When he begins to experience a series of unlucky events, he shocks everyone in town by saying that it is a sign of good things to come. Will Sion lose his reputation for being the wisest man in the kingdom, for how could misfortune ever be a blessing? This profound folktale from China (and translated from Chinese) is beautifully adapted by Chen Jiafei and illustrated by award-winning artist Wang Ran.

FANTASTIC REVIEWS

“The pages are filled with delightful onomatopoeia—’flap, thwap’ flutter the prayer flags; ‘tring, tringg’ goes a bell—and Ranade’s inviting illustrations detail the life and geography of this mountainous region. Informative backmatter includes an introduction to the region, a glossary, and a recipe. A delightful family story…”

CHENNAI WEEK CELEBRATIONS

We had a fantastic storytelling session at Higginbothams bookstore, Chennai, on 23rd August. One of the largest crowds we’ve ever had showed up, and everyone attending was enthralled by Janaki Sabesh’s renditions of our two most quintessentially South Indian stories – The Story and the Song and The Lion’s Feast.

WHAT WE’RE READING

The Outlaw by Nancy Vo

In this spare and powerful story set in the Old West, people in a small town live in constant worry of another visit from the Outlaw. But then the Outlaw suddenly and mysteriously disappears…where did he go? And will he ever return?

The subtle, beautiful mixed-media art with its nineteenth-century textural references perfectly complements this original story by Nancy Vo.

My Heart by Corinna Luyken

Some days your heart is a puddle or a fence to keep the world out. But some days it is wide open to the love that surrounds you.
With lyrical text and breathtaking art, My Heart empowers all readers to listen to the guide within in this ode to love and self-acceptance.
