Do you have a child who has an imaginative streak and a penchant for drawing and art? Hone their skills with a drawing workshop from National Award-winning animator and children’s book illustrator Chetan Sharma. With 23 years of experience to his credit, Chetan Sharma is known for his inimitable artistic style which features in bestselling kids’ books all over India. Chetan’s book for Karadi Tales, The Lion’s Feast, was shortlisted for The Hindu Young World GoodBooks Awards in the illustration category. SOME WONDERFUL REVIEWS

The Mountains of Mumbai by Labanya Ghosh and Pallavi Jain
“…even though it is a very densely populated city, it is a city that “lends meaning, beauty, and joy to its citizens”. The artwork provided by Pallavi Jain captures this beauty by using rich and vibrant colors to illustrate the city scene of Mumbai…”
Sion’s Misfortune by Chen Jiafei and Wang Ran
“…This book is perfect for children over the age of four years. I would recommend this story for children who enjoy fables and tales, especially if they enjoy some sort of message from the story…”
Sadiq Wants to Stitch by Mamta Nainy and Niloufer Wadia
“This is a great story to let children know they can do and be whatever they want–even if some of those things are typically a “girl thing” or a “boy thing”…I loved the bright colors used in this story. The reader can clearly see that the inspiration for these rugs come from the beautiful colors found in this mountainous region…”

KARADI IN THE NEWS!

“Another Indian publisher of children’s books, Karadi Tales, offers ‘Katha with Karadi’, a vibrant source of stories, free picture books, audio books, bilingual books and activity books. One of our favourite books from Karadi Tales, Sadiq Wants to Stitch by Mamta Nainy, even has a delightful colouring activity accompanying the book.

Chitra Soundar’s Farmer Falgu series is my daughter’s favourite and we were delighted to see that there is a new Farmer Falgu book on offer — Farmer Falgu Stays at Home! You can also read Farmer Falgu Goes to the Kumbh Mela on the Katha with Karadi website. The website features stories narrated by Vidya Balan, Usha Uthup and Nandita Das.”

Deep Comprehension for Deep Learning by Mr. C.P. Viswanath – Co-founder and CEO of Karadi Path Education Company on Thursday, 14th May 2020. Attended by 680 people, this workshop enabled them to question entrenched systems and faulty pedagogies and rethink learning as the process of reading and re-reading, of reviewing and retelling, and of revisiting and reimagining ideas.

When a learner comprehends content in depth, learning becomes an unending quest of discovery, and an unravelling of worlds of knowledge. But without comprehension, conceptual understanding is compromised, and critical and creative thinking remain mere labels in the educational system.

Basic Yoga Practices for Teacher Wellbeing by Senior Yoga Facilitator at Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM), Chennai on Friday, 15th May 2020. This was Karadi Path’s tribute to the relentless service of teachers and it received an overwhelming participation from 1014 teachers from different parts of the country. It focused on Pranayama and other Yoga practices for inner-peace, stress-relief and overall teacher wellbeing.

Raising Readers by Ms. Preetika Venkatakrishnan – Vice President of Product and Training at Karadi Path Education Company on Saturday, 16th May 2020.

Teach a child how to read and the child will find a library on her own. The workshop was attended by 1053 participants who were taken through strategies of reading that every educator needs to adopt to raise a community of early readers. It demonstrated the deep ties shared between reading and a language’s listening ecosystem, and threw light on the different stages of decoding and inference-making. With short exercises on interpreting texts, the workshop unraveled reading as a transformational process for building empathy in children.

KARADI CONNECT

COVID-19 has paused the programme intervention at schools temporarily, but Karadi Path has been working relentlessly to engage with teachers. In our project ‘Joyful English’, an initiative implemented in 25 Tamil Nadu Tribal Welfare Schools with the support of the MA Grant, the team came up with activities for the teachers under the banner of ‘Karadi Connect’. The objective was to connect with Headmasters and teachers from all 25 schools where we are working, and have a recap session of the past year along with discussions on the field outcomes, the plan for the upcoming year and most importantly the tasks that can be assigned to teachers and students during the lockdown period. Phase 1 of the online drive started on 19th May 2020 and Phase 2 of the drive with more activities began on 29th May 2020.

REIMAGINING THE ENGLISH CLASSROOM

A faculty development programme on Reimagining the English Classroom was conducted in collaboration with the Department of English, Women’s Christian College on Wednesday, 27th May 2020.

350 participants were taken through a series of interactive exercises and discussions. The webinar presented the need to identify pedagogical intelligence as the prime mover in learning outcomes. It also presented some new insights into linguistic intelligence, the process of learning, and language acquisition. It outlined, in particular, the methodology of learning through immersion and discovery.
