FANTASTIC REVIEWS

“The story paints a beautiful picture of a tightly-knit community, who look out for each other. Shilpa Ranade’s illustrations perfectly capture the serenity of Ladakh. From their clothes to the colourful prayer flags hung on the roads, there is an authenticity to the illustrations…Thukpa for All follows in the footsteps of other books that try to deal with disability without bringing it to the forefront of the story.”

“If you’ve never been to New Delhi, then the photos and illustrations in the book are a spectacular introduction to the city’s mixed architecture, erstwhile yet contemporary roads, lip-smacking grub, and the by-lanes of Chandni Chowk. The book also brings to our notice the forgotten art of letter-writing..the simplicity with which complex emotions about family and the city are written, is what makes Letters to Ammi a heartwarming tale. Each page of the book holds on to the past, never failing to make us nostalgic in the present.”

“Told in vivid prose with words from several Indian-subcontinent languages featured in a bold, large font colored the same as the fabric pattern (and defined in the glossary), the story works well as a read-aloud. The bright, fully saturated illustrations, in jewel-like tones with heavy black outlines, are amusingly warmhearted.”

“Encouraging children to read books similar to this, is essential to enable them to tackle a society rife with their opinions on who gets to do what…By painting a tapestry of bright, colourful embroideries, the illustrator Niloufer Wadia, introduces us to the indigenous craft. The book also draws attention to the fact that this is a dying art form and how efforts are taken to preserve it.”
